Khwai Botswana
LEGENDARY WILDLIFE AND LANDSCAPES
Enchanting Khwai is one of Botswana's Most-Scenic and Wildlife-Rich Areas
On the northeastern outskirts of the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Botswana offers an amazing ecosystem of lagoons, shallow flooded pans, open grasslands, and woodland forests. With over 1800km of unspoiled wilderness, it is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful destinations to safari in Botswana. The wildlife is prolific, the scenery is enchanting, and the local Khwai community (with a population of just 400 people) provides an inspirational example of harmony with nature.
Khwai Botswana Facts
Khwai is well-known for being a game-rich area. It is a 35,000-hectare conservation area in the northeastern area of the world-famous Okavango Delta. The area was founded by local Khwai villagers (predominantly of BaBukakhwe or River Bushmen descent) and is managed by the Khwai Development Trust, as a pristine nature preserve dedicated to ecotourism.
The legendary Khwai River winds its way through this stunning Concession, creating a patchwork of landscapes that blend the edge of the Kalahari Desert with spectacular waterways, channels, and islands. The size of the herds and variety of animals in Khwai is second to none. Highlights include large breeding herds of elephants, buffalo, and other antelopes. And predatory species such as leopards, lions, and packs of African wild dogs.

Our Khwai Camp is located directly on the banks of the Khwai River. Fall asleep to the sounds of hippos lowing and wake up to elephants or antelope drinking from its shores. This is one of our favorite destinations due to its enchantingly remote and intimate setup. Most days, a herd of elephants will visit camp and join you for one of your meals.
Embark on phenomenal game drives, night drives, and walking safaris. You can even try a traditional mokoro safari and allow an expert guide to glide you through the serene waters of the Khwai River. Every safari activity is available at our Khwai camp.
