A Lifelong Dream Fulfilled! - My family and I stayed 6 nights with Brave Africa Safaris (3 nights in Khwai, 3 nights in Savuti), and it was truly an unforgettable experience in the best ways... read more possible! The camps themselves were clean and comfortable beyond any camping experience I've ever had, thanks to the wonderful staff! Titi and KT were amazing camp hosts, and Chef Valentine's food was excellent, especially during Culture Night. I wish I could remember everyone else's names, but I can honestly say that their thoughtfulness and care made the camps feel like a second home!

But the highlight of the trip itself, exploring the African bush, would not have been nearly the experience it was without the help of our safari guide, Wina. Not only was he friendly and informative to us guests, he also clearly loves and respects the animals themselves. When he sees an animal in a delicate or stressful situation, he knows how to let us approach the animal without disturbing it too much. Or if he observes from his surroundings that something exciting is about to happen, he'll tell us to wait patiently until whatever happens happens. Through his guidance, we were able to witness so many rare sightings, from lions waiting in ambush to mud-bathing wild dogs, even a herd of shy roan antelope! Wina is the kind of guide that other guides should strive to be, and if you're ever lucky enough to have him guide your safari, make sure to follow is advice. He won't let you down!

The tents... read more are the size of hotel rooms, with very comfy beds and private bathrooms. The staff went out of their way to take care of us. Our guide, Wina, took us to very special places, we saw hundreds of animals each day and he told us so much about their behavior. Especially in Moremi he took us to beautiful and quiet parts with very few other tourists. This part of Botswana is unbelievably beautiful and it was just magical to camp in the wilderness and fully experience nature while feeling very safe with Wina and the rest of the crew. Brave Africa is a local organization and for us it was a bonus that our money went directly to the people who worked so hard to give us this fantastic experience. Highly recommended!

Wina is Owner/Guide/Elephant Whisperer of Brave Africa. If I had only one word to describe Wina, it would be passionate. His affinity for elephants is palpable, even down to the sterling silver elephant charm he wears around his neck. However, his incredible knowledge of Botswana’s animals, reptiles, and birds does not stop there. My sons and I learned so much from Wina.

I have nothing but praise for his amazing staff. Quiet, capable camp manager, TT. Handsome, affable apprentice, Jocelyn. Sweet KT who met our every need. OT, incomparable chef! OT’s cuisine is world-class. My youngest son must eat a gluten-free diet, and he declared OT’s cooking and breads the best he has ever consumed. OT even surprised me with a birthday cake, and a gluten-free version for my son.

I cried as our three days with Wina and his staff ended. We felt very special indeed when the staff hopped on the Land Cruiser as we left, singing and ululating.

I would return to Brave Africa tomorrow if I could.

With an experienced ornithologist in our family (of 4 adults) it was very important that we went on a... read more private tour so that we could stop for birds without being worried about other passengers. We had read about Wina's expert animal knowledge but we were blown away by his everything else knowledge as well. His birding knowledge was outstanding and he was able to discuss the finer details of birds all day, we had fun identifying butterflies and animal droppings too. Don't let all the chat about birding let you think that this wasn't a mammal packed adventure though. Most of the time there was no need for the zoom on our camera, we had some incredible encounters. A mother Leopard with cubs and a kill up a tree, Lions in camp, Lions in the road and Lions and Elephants walking right next to the truck. As well as everything else we could wish for including several encounters with Wild dogs.

We have been on many wildlife holidays but this one was without the doubt the best due to Wina's expert knowledge, the camp staff's friendliness and attentiveness to detail, the delicious food from OT making such fresh delicious food for 8 days, and the super comfy double beds which meant you got an amazing sleep every night (unless you got woken up by lions roaring outside, which is pretty amazing). One of our family hates camping even for one night and we were planning 8! So I was anxious to find a tour with proper beds. Kelly even sent me pictures of the mattresses and toppers. The beds were superb and the reluctant camper slept soundly and declared it was so comfy, it didn't count as camping.

Even though I read all the reviews, I really didn't appreciate that the toilets were fresh water, just like at home which was a real luxury.
The photos on the website really are an accurate representation of the camps and the wonderful remoteness of it all.

  Best Safari Ever! - Best Safari Ever!
This was our fourth trip to Africa, and frankly we were almost afraid to go back because we thought we had “seen everything.” But our visit to... read more the Okavango Delta with Brave Africa ended up being one of the highlights of our entire life!

We spent 6 days alone with the incredible group of people who made up the staff. We got to know them by name, and enjoyed every moment of it. My husband Steve is a big teaser and I think it was only Day 2 when KT and OT started teasing back. I really think that everyone was having a good time.

The food and drink were really terrific, although we kept trying to get them give us less, it really didn't work too well. KT was always filling our glasses and OT was always cooking up great stuff. Every day for lunch she would bake fresh out of the oven bread, often shaped like birds or other animals.

Our game drives were great, and since we are birders there was always something to look at if nothing else was right in front of us. Steve got to “ordering up” what he wanted to see that day – like a leopard in a tree! And Wina always found it! One day Wina personally found a leopard in a tree with its kill! That was a big day for the whole staff because that is a real coup and all of the other guides from other trips were congratulating him all day long. We also loved the praise! We felt like we were part of the family by then.

By the last day the only thing Wina had not found for us was wild dogs. No one had seen even their tracks for about 3 days. But he found them on the way to the airport! You'd think that we couldn't ask for more than that BUT our last night took the cake – literally.

We could kinda feel that a surprise was in the works for our last night, but we could never have dreamed that they would plan a Botswanan wedding for us to celebrate our anniversary! The whole staff acted as part of either my family or Steve's with Wina acting as Steve's aged uncle who took him to visit my family and offer for my hand. He had to bargain, but got me for 2 cows, 4 goats, 4 sheep and 3 chickens! Then we had the wedding and all of our family danced and sang. It was incredible. And there was a beautiful anniversary cake, and champagne back in our tent. It was something we will remember for the rest of our lives.

At night, we could hear animals in the vicinity of our tent, which made it even more exciting. The staff took great care of us, keeping us well-fed and safe throughout. Our guide, Wina, was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and made the whole adventure both fun and memorable.   Africa Brave safari , a Highlight of my Life  - The Brave Africa mobile safari that my husband and I just experienced was fabulous beyond all my expectations and imaginings. I can hardly find the right words to express the positive impact this experience had for me.

1. Our Guide -Wina was the best guide I have ever had on all my many worldly outdoor adventures. He is passionate about and truly loves wild Africa, nature, and conservation of all the plants and animals that are there.
He has excellent tracking skills, experience, knowledge and "sense" of where the animals are. If the animals are moving through the bush, he knows where to go so that when they emerge we are close to be with them.
Wina is committed to providing the best experience possible for his guests and seemed to meet our needs, sometimes before WE even knew what the were.
He is a great story teller, funny and compassionate.

2. The Luxury Mobile Safari - Fabulous, friendly staff, excellent food ( thank you chef Oti for the the delicious, artistically presented food especially warm loaves of bread in animal or plant shapes, Titi for his soft spoken kindness to us and competent management of the many physical and mechanical challenges of mobile safari, and Pema for his thoughtful way of being our waiter at our elegantly served meals.
The tents were spaciousness, beds extremely comfortable bed and bathroom facilities inside the tent.
Fluffy towels, hot water bottles in the beds( called bush babies )for the cold nights, laundry done for us by "Mother" who also expertly repaired some rips in our clothes that happened before we arrived and the magic of the disassembling and reassembling the whole camp every few days in yet another exquisite and different wilderness camp in the bush.

3 The Animal s- I give thanks to the Animals and and to Brave Africa for the experience of being with these magnificent creatures of Africa on mobile safari. It was was powerful and life changing. The diversity of the types of animals, the number of animals of each type and the different part of each animals life that we witnessed was astonishing. I learned and felt so much.
Elephants, lions, leopards, huge herds of Cape Buffalo, giraffes, impalas, antelopes, hippos, zebras, so many wonderful birds, to name a few animals that we met.
You can tell from my review that Brave Africa is a 5 star experience on every level.
It will be life changing experience and a great gift for you alone or you with family and friends to experience the thrill of Safari with Brave Africa.

The camps were fantastic. Being right in the bush every night and away from modern civilization was deeply appreciated. The staff was attentive to our every need. From hot towels after the game drives, to bush babies (hot water bottles) in our beds every night, the service was unexpectedly luxurious. We thoroughly enjoyed the food expertly prepared by Chef Oti. Africa was on our bucket list. Traveling with Wina and Brave Africa came through with flying colors.

As we... read more contemplated how we might get out of this situation, a Brave Africa vehicle appeared on the trail containing the owners/partners of Brave Africa company, Wina, Patrick and Kelly. They had attended a business conference and were enjoying a vacation safari of their own. They readily offered to load our entire party, plus our driver/guide, into their vehicle and drive out of their way to drop us at our lodge. We can't thank them enough for interrupting their own trip to rescue us. We had the opportunity to talk with them about their Brave Africa business, and came away very impressed with their safari model, and especially their friendliness, courtesy and enthusiasm.   Unforgettable Wildlife, Warm Hospitality, and Expert Guiding  - We (two adults and two children aged 10 and 12) were recently fortunate enough to be hosted by Tabona Wina and his team, and enjoy a 7 night stay with... read more Brave Africa in Savute during the chilly dry season. From arrival and until departure everything was taken care of and the experience was something we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Wina is extremely professional and knowledgeable. He and his team work hard to ensure a safe and enriching experience and they succeed exceedingly well. 

Wina greeted us at the airstrip when we landed and drove us to camp in his bespoke, fantastic game drive vehicle in which we would spend many amazing hours each day on safari. The experiences began already before we got to camp. Birds of all colors and sizes, majestic elephants calmly stripping leaves off branches, impalas watching you closely, giraffes awkwardly drinking from a waterhole and, just a couple of stone throws away from camp, a large group of lions called the Marsh Pride that would at times make themselves heard at night.

The entire team greeted us, when we arrived at camp, with song, drinks and snacks by a campfire followed by a fantastic three course meal. It felt magical, warming and welcoming. The camp was just perfect for a full safari experience. The tents were large and luxurious. My wife and I were able to enjoy a fantastic double bed, while our children enjoyed their own tent with two singles. Each tent had a separate bathroom area, complete with a flushing toilet and a nice private enclosure in the back where a nice hot shower was provided each day. An additional large open tent held a well stocked bar, lounge area and dinner table.  

The days that followed were just absolutely amazing. Our days would start with a wakeup ‘knock, knock’ outside the tent at 6 in the morning. A basin of refreshing warm water would be waiting for us to clean up with followed by a fantastic breakfast offering of cereals, fresh fruit, fresh made toasted-bread, hot oatmeal, coffee, hot chocolate, cold-cuts, cheeses and cake by the campfire. At 7 we would be off into the wild with Tabona, and the first thing to do was to read "the daily newspaper" — inspecting the tracks left overnight on the sandy road leading into camp, just to see what animals had visited us while we slept. The news paper said lion and honey badger one day, hyena another and cheetah a third and so on. From there we would head off in search for animals based on tracks spotted, sounds heard, reporting from other guides and so on. 

The first morning ride served up more time with the Marsh pride. We watched as the lionesses encircled and snuck up on three clueless warthogs, one of whom fled right into the claws and teeth of one of the lionesses. The next a leopard, the third a pack of wild dogs with squeaking little puppies being fed by returning adults, and on and on the experiences came. All mingled with elephants, giraffes, antelopes of all shapes and sizes, beautiful birds, warthogs, mongoose, you name it.

The morning ride would be broken around 10 o’clock by a break with coffee, hot chocolate and 3 different types of scrumptious fresh cookies, while being eyed by very curious yellow billed hornbills or starlings. Wina would make sure the kids burned off a bit of energy before getting back into the vehicle. At around noon we would return to camp for a lavish lunch, a rest, a warm shower and another round of coffee, hot chocolate, nuts, dried fruit and biltong. Then off we went again.

The afternoon drives were in the same vein as the morning rides: read the newspaper and track animals, but the behavior of the animals is different from the morning and it was fascinating to see the change. Also, the light would turn more golden as the sun went down towards the horizon. Watching herds of elephants congregating around waterholes in the light of the setting sun is just breathtaking and our days often ended with such a sight. We would then head back to camp and be met with drinks and snacks ready by the campfire followed by another perfectly satisfying three course dinner. The day would end with a chat by the campfire, watching the endless night sky. The sky, in a place with absolutely no light pollution, yields an amazing view of the Milky Way and is a sight never to be forgotten all by itself.

Wina is an amazing guide and teacher, and is happy to share his extensive knowledge. The kids were absorbing every bit of knowledge and enjoyed the challenge of Wina quizzing them over the days on all they learned. Also, the greater context he shared about what these amazing animals are, their social structure and the meaning of their behavior filled us with greater wonder and appreciation. Also, we never rushed on to the next thing. Wina made sure to let us observe the animals for as long as we liked and in different settings. We would meet up with the Marsh pride, a second pride of lions called the North pride, and the wild dog pack on different days and at different times of day. This gave a far more complete experience of these fantastic animals and their lives.

The whole rest of the team was also amazing with the kids. The cook, Otie, went out of her way to serve delicious food they would like. The butler, James, and the camp manager, Titi, were favorites with our boy who was very excited to tell Titi about lion tracks into camp one morning because he knew Titi had dreamt of lions in camp that very night. Our boy was also eager to share news of a killed honey badger we had seen because he knew Titi disliked the animal for stealing food from the kitchen. One afternoon, thanks to Wina who had bought the necessary things just because the kids would be there, the whole camp got together for a very tense bow and arrow competition after James and Titi had assembled the bows with the kids. It was such a fun change of pace.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, but we did not say goodbyes as we know we'd like to see everyone again and do it all again. Dance, song and merriment ended our last evening in Savuti, and a drive to the local airstrip the next day took us to our first flight all the way home across the world. A trek we wouldn't mind doing a hundred times if it meant an experience like the one we had.

You won't regret it.

  Simply Epic Safari + Memorable all around Family Experience  - Simply EPIC!!!

We originally planned to visit in 2020 but thanks to COVID (never thought I would say that) we were forced to postpone the trip couple of times... read more until now.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon 20y in Africa so returning now with our teenager daughters added a special flavor to this trip. We didn't know what to expect to be honest but certainly each one of us hoped for something special.

Tabona Wina (or just Wina) was our guide and host in the beginning but quickly became part of the family. So did, Otti, James and everyone on the staff. We were fortunate enough to have all 10-15 of them traveling just for us.

After being picked up at the air strip we were introduced to the high end Land Cruiser and informed of first drive before reaching camp. Lots of hippos announced our arrival surrounded by Elephants ::)

Surrounded and blessed by the Okavango Delta, the Khwai camp offers a large variety of species to be appreciated. Expect for Rhinos we pretty much saw everything. From big to small to ugly FIVES ::). Wina will educate you on all of them throughout.

Being totally disconnected from the world opened a new frontier for us as a family; allowing us to become more self-aware and united. I always have something going on inside my head but armed with a binocular I lost track of time. By being alert and always searching for animals was in itself my YOGA or mindfulness exercise. Just amazing.

We were on our way back to camp, when Wina decided to drive by a water whole hoping for us to see some animals. As we approached, he quietly stated " oh I see some lions " . and we said " what!? " all very excited. As it turns around, it wasn't just a or couple lions but almost a super pride made of 18 of them (male, females, cubs). They had just killed a buffalo. We stayed there for over 3h simply admiring nature at its best. No one got hungry or needed a toilet break. Again, just fascinated watching the cubs (love them!) eating and playing around.

Oh, and of course there was the 5-star all inclusive accommodation. My wife has never camped in her life and had only compliments. From king size beds, to toilets, to warm showers this is a luxurious way to enjoy nature. All done sustainably and in harmony with the surrounding environment.

I tell my kids they will only inherit life experiences from my wife and I. And this is definitely one of them. The original intent of the trip is/was a birthday gift to my youngest daughter who in 2020 turned 10y. She is now 13y and was literally spoiled the crew with birthday wishes, songs, dances, cakes almost every day. Wina and the staff again made her feel very special and provided moments I am sure she will never forget. And even if she did we have plenty of pics and videos.

All in all, I could not recommend Brave Africa enough. Everyday is a new experience and we will certainly come back.
