Brave Africa's Hands

Giving Back Through Every Safari

Together, We Give Back to the Community and Make a Real Impact

Brave Africa’s Hands is the charity arm of Brave Africa Safaris, and it is at the core of who we are. One of the main reasons for starting Brave Africa was to create a safari company that benefited the local community. Not only are we owned and operated by Motswanans, but we also proactively partner with the local communities where we operate to support, empower, and strengthen them. We do this through funding schools, supporting less privileged children, and participating in community projects.

As safari operators, we also have a responsibility to protect Botswana’s wildlife and wilderness by serving as good custodians. We do this by leaving nature as untouched by our presence as possible, while also imparting our love and care for all that Botswana has to offer to every guest. Only by working together can we ensure that today’s safari endures for decades to come.

Community

We empower communities by supporting less privileged and vulnerable families, participating in local projects, and ensuring our business is owned and operated by locals.

Education

We are committed to supporting schools and children by funding various educational necessities, from purchasing backpacks, uniforms, and school materials to meeting essential needs.

Conservation

Our goal is to instill a love for nature in our guests and protect the landscapes and ecosystems where we work by reducing plastic waste, utilizing solar power, and helping wildlife thrive.

Sponsoring School Children

We currently sponsor four children at the local school in Khwai Community Concession. We are dedicated to meeting their essential needs as outlined by the school. Our goal is to improve school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and overall enhance their educational experience by purchasing what they need and supporting their efforts in any way possible.

During your safari with Brave Africa, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the local school, engage with the community, and learn about local projects. You can also choose to sponsor your own child in addition to the children we already sponsor. It’s all about making an impact that will last a lifetime.

How We Fund Our Efforts

USD $5 Per Night

We donate USD $5 per night from every safari guest directly toward our community and education efforts.

Community Hiring

We are owned and operated by Motswanans, so our operating costs and salaries go back into the local community for a greater impact.

Local Artisans

Everywhere possible, we hire local artisans to craft the goods at our camp, including all of the wooden kists, tables, racks, and platforms.

Conservation Economy

We use mostly community campsites, which means our camping fees go directly to the communities to encourage continued conservation.

Travel with Purpose

Guests can contact us before their safari to bring supplies and items with them to the bush to hand off to the community in person.

Additional Funding

Guests can make additional donations to directly sponsor students and local community projects of their choice.

Protecting Nature

With approximately 40% of its land dedicated to conservation, a safari in Botswana is synonymous with privacy and untouched wilderness. Our goal is to keep that wilderness as pristine as possible for generations to come. We celebrate nature with our sustainable, comfortable mobile-tented safari camp, so guests take away only memories and leave behind only footsteps. We have no permanent structures, use as little plastic as possible, and implement solar power wherever possible.

We were also founded by a local Motswana safari guide committed to protecting the bush he loves so much and sharing that love with every safari guest. Conservation hospitality, which protects habitats from human impact, is key to the long-term success of the safari industry. It’s all about creating a collaborative ecosystem where local communities earn an income from sharing their existence with wildlife, so that we are all focused on protecting nature together.
